I never really pay attention to the emails I get from Ticketmaster and often just do a quick “Mark as Read” but this is a behaviour I shall be changing from henceforth. I love the theatre but I don’t go as often as I would like to and the “Mother Africa: Khayelisha – My Home” performance was the first I’ve been to this year, but it most certainly won’t be the last.
Mother Africa was a reminder of what I love about being African. It was black excellence. It was sunshine. It was an amalgamation of incredible gravity defying stunts and exuberant traditional live South African music. There were moments in each stunt where I held my breath out of fear and sheer excitement. It deserved a standing ovation, personally, but, according to a quick chat i had with an audience member, theatre people tend to be a bit uptight about that. It wasn’t perfect and yes, there were errors made and when doing stunts that could break your neck, errors aren’t a minor but they came back with grace and made any error a part of the entertainment.
If you’re looking for a great family show or a fun date for you and your (potential) significant other, then I’d highly recommend this show.
Mother Africa is currently showing till the 11th of March at Peacock Theatre. Tickets can be found here: LoveTheatre
